T-Mobile's newest Android phone got an official name, price, and release date yesterday. The device had
previously been called the "new MyTouch" but is now officially called the MyTouch 4G. It will be available November 3 for $199 after a $50 rebate with a standard 2-year contract. The 4G refers to the fact that the device uses T-Mobile's new HSPA+ network which is capable of reaching 4G speeds, provided you're in a 4G area. The
G2 is also an HSPA+ device.
There had been some speculation about whether T-Mobile would chose to label their new network as "4G," but they have apparently decided to do so. The MyTouch 4G features a 3.8" screen, 1GHz second-generation Snapdragon processor, 5MP camera, 720p video recording, front-facing camera with video calling, 8GB of memory, pre-installed games, support for T-Mobile's advanced HSPA+ network, and runs Android 2.2, Froyo.
It also runs T-Mobile's custom UI, called Espresso or mySense, depending on who you ask. Users of the MyTouch Slide will immediately recognize it, since the two devices share the same UI. The MyTouch 4G will be launched in 4 colors, black, White, Red, and Plum. Check out

This device looks great. I personally want a keyboard, and I like the stock Android experience over Espresso, but that's easily changed with something like
Launcher Pro. I think this is going to be a huge seller, especially with 4G and video calling for no extra fees. Plus, it can do video calling over the cell network, whereas the iPhone requires WiFi for video calling. It's great seeing such high-end devices hitting T-Mobile, too. More options are great, and I definitely want to see this in person.
Yeah, this sounds like a great phone, it has something for everyone. The MyTouch phones are already popular, and I think this will continue the trend. Good stuff.
