T-Mobile announced Cliq 2 and G-Slate tablet

At CES yesterday, Motorola and T-Mobile took the wraps off of the previously rumored Cliq 2. The device features a 3.7" screen, 5MP camera, runs Android 2.2, Froyo and is powered by a 1GHz processor. It is the direct successor to the original Cliq, a device that many customers are still angry about due to Motorola's lack of updates.

The Cliq 2 is notably thinner and more powerful than the first one, and early reports indicate that the keyboard is nice to use, if a bit cramped. It will be available on T-Mobile this Sunday, January 9, so we can expect full blown reviews to be arriving shortly.



And almost immediatly following Motorola's announcement of the Xoom, T-Mobile and LG announced that they, too would be releasing a Honeycomb tablet called the G-Slate. It will feature T-Mobile's 4G HSPA+ connectivity, but aside from that, absolutely zero details are known. No word of a WiFi only version, so it's likely safe to assume that this device will be locked to T-Mobile.

T-Mobile is holding a press event today at CES at 2pm, so we will likely hear more about the G-Slate later today.

Very cool, the more honeycomb tablets, the better. I really, really want to see someone make a WiFi only version, or at least one that has a carrier partner but doesn't require a contract. Sadly, I don't think that's very likely. As for the Cliq 2, it looks nice, but it's not for me. And I won't be recommending it to anyone.

Cliq 2 = BORING. As for the G-Slate, I don't know enough about it to really have anything to say yet. I agree with Ryan that I would definitely prefer a tablet with the option of adding on carrier service, like the Xoom was rumored to possibly be able to do.
