Sprint Evo Shift 4G now official

In a move that surprises no one, HTC and Sprint have just officially announced the Evo Shift 4G. As all the rumors and leaks predicted, the device is a 3.6" QWERTY slider and packs Sprint's 4G radio inside. It's extremely similar to the G2, but has a tweaked front face to more mirror the original Evo, as well as a more traditional slider mechanism.



The keyboard has also been slightly tweaked to feature a directional pad, and no quick keys. It also features the updated version of HTC Sense, which brings a wealth of new features as well. You can check out the full list of specs over at AndroidCentral. The Evo Shift 4G will be available this Sunday, January 9 for $149 on a 2-year contract.

As I've said before, this looks like a nice, solid addition to Sprint's lineup. It was also one of the worst kept phone secrets in a long time, so it's good to finally see it made official. The G2 is an excellent phone, and Sprint was lacking a keyboard device from HTC, so this will be great for their customers. I definitely prefer the G2's looks, and I don't like not having the trackpad on the front. But it looks good and will probably sell quite well.

Yeah, this definitely looks like a great phone. I do think the trackpad placement is odd--I wouldn't want to have to have the keyboard open in order to use it.
