Hulu Plus coming soon to Android

At CES this week, Hulu made the exciting announcement that they have an Android app coming soon that will allow access to Hulu Plus content. Hulu Plus is the service's pay-for option that costs $8 per month and allows for access to more content than the free version, and allows you to watch content on more devices.

Hulu Plus has been available on the iPhone for several months, and they say their Android version is very close to being completed. The company's official blog post states that it will require Android 2.2, Froyo or higher, but is quite vague about how the app will work, stating that it will work "on select Android phones" and that they'll announce "a complete list of Hulu Plus-enabled Android phones" in the near future. This could mean that the app will require a powerful, advanced phone, or it could mean that they have manufacturer and/or carrier partnerships in the works. So the notion of Hulu Plus only being available for Verizon phones, or only available on Samsung phones is definitely a possibility.

This is very exciting news, but there's a definite dark cloud hanging over it. I'm not a Hulu Plus subscriber, and I honestly don't know whether being able to watch movies and TV on my phone would tempt me to subscribe or not, but it would definitely be a nice option. The vague wording on that blog post though, could mean the worst...and I wouldn't be surprised at all if the worst is exactly what happens.

I think a lot of people are going to be excited about this if they don't get all greedy about it. Partnerships are so annoying. I guess we'll have to wait and see on this one.
