Verizon Incredible getting Froyo update today

This is very good news for all you Incredible owners out there. Verizon has officially confirmed on Twitter that the Android 2.2, Froyo update for the Droid Incredible is going out today. Some of updates included in the 2.2 rollout include 720p HD video recording, Flash 10.1 preinstalled, and a built-in mobile hotspot app (though this will, of course, cost extra to use). The update will also include all the goodies that come with Froyo, like the updated Android Market, faster performance, and the ability to use the newest apps like Chrome to Phone, and Voice Actions.

If the update hasn't reached your phone yet, don't panic. These updates roll out over the course of several days, so keep an eye for that happy "Update Available" alert on your phone.

I don't have an Incredible myself, of course, but this is great news for those of you that do. Froyo brings a lot of improvements, both in terms of speed and app performance. A great number of phones are never likely to see the update apart from rooting, so waiting for these carrier updates is the only way. It's good to see Verizon and HTC getting it out to their best selling devices.

Sigh. It drives me crazy that people have to get excited when their carrier finally decides to  update their phones. The sad reality is that carriers do it so infrequently, and to such a limited extent, that we have to get excited because we don't know if it'll ever happen again. And that's just stupid.
