October is almost over, and another weekend is here. And with the weekend comes another weekend rumor recap. This is where we quickly recount the past week's best Android related rumors and leaks all in one post. If you're the type of Android enthusiast who wants to follow these rumors as they show up, we recommend any of the excellent Android blogs listed on the right side of this site.
Now let's check out some rumors:
First up, we have a rumor from Droid Life suggesting that dual-screen Samsung Continuum, and the mid-range LG Vortex will both be hitting Verizon on October 29. Pricing has not been released for either device. That's just 5 days away, so we'll find out soon.
Ryan says: The Continuum is a seriously unique and interesting device, with that dual screen and grip sensors. I really want to check that one out in person.
Shelsy says: Yep. This is really just not exciting. But maybe once the Continuum is out I'll go check it out, just because. Maybe.
According to Digitimes, Google recently contacted their hardware partners to say that Android 3.0 would be available to them by December, and 4.0 would be available in the second half of 2011. Google has, of course, said nothing about this.
Ryan says: It's very common for hardware manufactures to get access to new OS releases before consumers, so this could very well be true. Still, rumors about Android updates have a tendency of being incorrect, so I'm not holding my breath.
Shelsy says: Wait, isn't 3.0 supposed to be Gingerbread? And isn't Gingerbread already scheduled to be released, or rumored to be, or something? Plus it makes sense to come out in December (duh). I'm confused.
In another rumor obtained by Droid Life, we have word that the Droid 2 Global Edition, Droid Pro, and Motorola Citrus will all hit Verizon on November 11.
Ryan says: The Droid Pro looks really nice, and I imagine a lot of current BlackBerry owners may chose to switch to Android once the Pro launches. The Citrus on the other hand...not interested.
Shelsy says: Yeah, I'm not interested in any of these...
According to Tmonews, the T-Mobile version of the Samsung Galaxy Tab will be hitting store shelves on November 10. No pricing information has been given for the T-Mobile version, but the rumors suggest $399 on contract.
Ryan says: I can't afford this, but I'm really excited about some nice Android tablets hitting the market. I'll be curious to see how this sells over the holidays.
Shelsy says: I don't know, that just seems like a lot, and then to still have to pay for service on top of that... If it's supposed to function as a computer, I'd rather have it sold like a computer, rather than sold as a phone. For only a little bit more (or a lot less if you count the carrier service) you can get a really nice laptop. It just doesn't make sense to me.
And finally, we have a rumor that just hit the wire yesterday. XDA Developers got access to an XML file that gave details on an upcoming HTC device headed to Sprint. It's codenamed Knight and is rumored to feature a slide-out keyboard and a 3.7" screen. It has been speculated that this is simply Sprint's customized version of the Desire Z, also known as the G2.
Ryan says: The G2 (and Desire Z) are very quality devices, so a version for Sprint would be very nice. Even if it is tweaked to Sprint's standards, and comes with all their pre-installed apps, it will still be a very solid device.
Shelsy says: That sounds great. It'll be nice to have the G2 (or something just like it) available on other networks. Plus, the Knight is an awesome name.
