Official Blogger app now available!

Google has owned Blogger for 8 years, and Android has been around for more than 2 years now, and yet there was never an official Blogger app. You'd think that with Blogger being one of the most popular blogging platforms in the world, and owned by Google, that it would have been one of the first official apps to be released.

Thankfully, those of us using Blogger no longer have to long for an official app, as it was finally released yesterday! The app allows switching between multiple accounts and multiple blogs, composing new posts and saving offline drafts, uploading photos, location sharing, and photo sharing right from the Gallery.



The app isn't perfect, and definitely has some missing features, but it gets the job done nicely. For example, the app can't view drafts created from the desktop site, only drafts written from the app itself. The app also can't do some more advanced tasks like comment moderation, adding photo captions, editing a post in HTML, etc.

As a first release, the app is really good. It will likely only get better with future updates, too. It requires Android 2.1 or higher. To download the app, head over to the Android Market.

It's awesome to finally see this app arrive. It's one I've been waiting for and it was one of my two requested apps for 2011. It's not perfect by any means, and the fact that it doesn't allow editing of existing saved drafts means I won't be getting a whole lot of use out of it myself, but it's still a welcome addition. Hopefully it gets quickly better as the year continues!

It's about freaking time. Seriously, why did this take so long? It's kind of a disgrace, really. And I've minimally played around with this app, and it still leaves a lot to be desired. I mean, it's good that it finally exists, but it's so limited that it's useful on an I-guess-it's-better-than-nothing kind of level. In my opinion, this app is what should have existed two and a half years ago when Android first launched. By now, I would have expected a lot more.
