The weekend is here once again, and so is another weekend rumor recap! This is where we quickly recap the best Android related rumors of the week, and give our opinions on them. To be on the cutting edge and follow all the rumors as they hit the wire, we recommend any of the fine Android blogs listed on the side of this site. Keep reading for the rumors!
First up is a rumor from Android Central about the upcoming HTC Mecha. According to the rumor, the Mecha will be Verizon's first LTE (read: 4G) device and will feature the new Sense interface (including access to HTCSense.com). The Mecha (or whatever it ends up being called), is rumored to launch early next year.
Ryan says: This looks like a really solid device, but I don't think it has a keyboard, and it's definitely going to Verizon, and at present, LTE is no faster than T-Mobile's HSPA+, which is available now. So, yeah, nice, but not super interesting yet.
Shelsy says: Well, from those two pictures it looks pretty much like every other phone out there. Nothing special. But it's one more option for those who like Sense, and that HTCSense.com thing does look pretty cool. I'm skeptical of any Android device on Verizon lately, though.
Next is a story from Engadget about a new flagship device from Samsung. The unnamed device is rumored to launch next year and reportedly features a very large 4.3" or 4.5" screen, 1.2GHz processor, 1080p HD recording and playback, and running Gingerbread, all in a crazy-thin body.
Ryan says: Ooooooo, pretty. If it really has a 4.5" screen, then that thing is bordering on tablet size and is way too big for most people. Aside from that, the specs look amazing and I can't wait to learn more about this one.
Shelsy says: Wow, that thing is thin. But seriously, 4.5"? Unless you have hands the size of dinner plates, that's just way too big to be handled like a normal phone. There has to be a point where bigger isn't better, right?
And finally we have a rumor that will be confirmed or squashed very soon. Google's CEO, Eric Schmidt, is delivering the keynote speach at the Web 2.0 Summit tomorrow. A lot of people suspect that he may finally unveil Gingerbread at the event and announce the availability of the development software.
Ryan says: Well, Gingerbread is definitely coming sooner or later, so sure, I guess he could announce it tomorrow. But I think it's more likely he'll just talk about the web in general...nothing exciting.
Shelsy says: Woo hoo! I'm rooting for Gingerbread!
