ViewSonic ViewPad 7 is now official

ViewSonic has just gone officially on the record with their previously rumored Android tablet. It's called the ViewTab 7, and it will be available in Europe later this year for a price said to be "less than £350" (which is around $540). It features Android 2.2, a 7-inch screen, 600MHz processor, 800x480 screen, 3G for voice and data, as well as front and rear facing cameras.

No details were given regarding exact availability, or whether it will ever be available in the United States. The tablet will be shown off at IFA in Germany this week. Read Engadget's full coverage here.

I really wanted to like the ViewSonic tablet, because they're so good at making awesome screens, but this is a kind of a disappointing, to be honest. It doesn't compare to the iPad in specs, and looks to be even more expensive. It also may not ever reach the US. It looks very pretty, and it could be a really nice little tablet. But it's underpowered with a somewhat low-res screen, priced at the same price as the iPad. I'm not all that interested in it, unfortunately.

Um, all those numbers mean nothing to me, so I'll just have to take Ryan's word for it. $540 does seem pretty high, though. If I'm going to spend that much, I want a fully functioning laptop. Or a cruise, or something.
