Google Docs editing coming to Android

In a blog post today, Google very quickly announced something that Android users have been waiting for for a very long time: Google Docs editing. Believe it or not, there is no official Google Docs app for Android, and the mobile website leaves a lot to be desired.

Given that Docs has been around since before Android hit the scene, it's pretty surprising that no official Docs app has been released yet. The announcement today was part of a list of features announced for Google business users and among them was this unassuming sentence: "and soon, mobile editing in Google Docs on Android and the iPad."



What that means is unknown. Maybe it will be a native app, or maybe it will simply be a more feature-filled mobile website. Time will tell, as always. But either way, the news is exciting for those of us that use Docs as our primary word processor. [source: Google Blog]

This is very excellent news. I really hope it's an app that allows syncing, editing, sharing, etc. of documents right from the app. But in a pinch, I'd even take a more powerful website. I've been waiting for this for 2 years. Now if we can just get an official Blogger app, we'll be all set.

I agree this is good news. And it's about time. It seems crazy to me that a fully functional Docs application wasn't included when Android launched. So much of what I do is integrated into Docs just for the fact that it's accessible anywhere, so it makes sense to be able to access, edit, and create documents from my phone as well.
